Little Shop- day 5

Today we began running act one including all the dance number we had set including 'little shop of horror', 'skid row' and 'Da-Doo' and began setting the scenes that went into and out of each of the numbers.
When we ran through Little Shop of horror there were parts of the dance which I was unsure on and this is because we didn't work with the choreographer while the rest of the cast learnt the dance this meant there were sections of the dance for use which were not yet set. This made it hard for me to get hold of the dance.
When we ran through the dialogue I found it hard to get into my character a she is the complete opposite to my personality which meant I really had to do my research into how i would play her and how to make her character come across as confident and sassy as possible.
When we ran through skid row I started to feel more confident with my solo at the beginning which helped me to come out in my character. in the dance we moved people about and added a few extra bits to make the number smoother and make the stage look tidier. We then ran through the number again with the adjustments. This song needs more effort put into it so it has more effect on the audience.
We then continued running act one and when we got to Da-Doo we realised that it looked messy and needed more animation to it. We needed to move everyone down stage and this was to spread everyone out and give everyone their own space. In the middle of the piece we added a movement that we all do together which is in the line 'total eclipse of the sun' in this we all look up to the top right corner of the stage and then the light comes up on the left and we all look there. Adding comedy to the number.
After this we split into groups to work on different things I went into a group with Freya and Tom and we worked on the harmonies on our songs. We firstly listened to the tracks through and worked out our harmonies and who would be singing each harmony. We then worked through each song with the backing track to get the timing right. This was hard as the back tracks had very different timings to the cast recording.
We finally performed Skid row and little shop with the back tracks to see what it sounded like. We need to work on these as for some of the song we are not sure of the words so we need to make sure we know them or it sound muffled and it doesn't sound confident.

Little Shop- day 4

Today we worked on little shop of horrors opening number. In this number Freya, Tom and I sing this song so we are very separate in what we do from the rest of the cast as this dance is very quick which we can't do as it will make the vocals weak. So this meant a lot of the time we were working on our own trying to fit in our movements with what Dan was teaching to the rest of the cast. This included slowing down bits and slightly changing the steps. At the beginning of this dance i start behind the audience and come through the audience this helps to build the suspense at the beginning of the performance. I found this dance easy but it is hard to get the harmonies right and get the dance right together. This needs to be worked on because most the cast are having trouble picking up the dance so we need to keep practicing until everyone has picked up the dance. However I now need to work on knowing all the lines to the song so i am able to dance and sing in unison without hesitation.

Little shop- day 3

Today in the lesson we began by running skid row so we could remember how it went and refresh it in our minds. After practicing it once we then ran through it while it being videoed. Afterwards our choreographer told us we need to make each movement flow into the next without hesitating which made it look basic and people were waiting before moving into the next movement. This means we don't just need to learn the dance but to create our character to make full of life.
For the rest of the lesson we worked on the Da-Doo, we began by watching the video of the song from the film to get an idea of how it goes. Then we split into groups where we came up what we thought we should do I was in the group with our choreographer Dan and Tom and Freya. We worked on our movement piece that we would be doing while the action was going on behind us. We worked on the sequence of movements that took place on each Da-Doo which included lots of levels. We then added each of the different scenes that everyone created together and they all fit nicely together as we had similar idea we just have to move people forward or back of stage. During this is needed to make sure that I was sassy, confident and full of energy. To improve this dance/ movement piece we needed to make sure everyone created there own character and everyone new what they were doing other wise it will not messy as there is so much going on.

Little shop- day 2

Today we set the dance for skid row. To begin with we got into our 3 hormony groups and sang through the song to remind ourselves how its went. After that's our choreographer Dan began to set the dance. One of the main features of the dance was to really express our characters and show the audience different things to our personality. At the beginning everyone is in a freeze frame while I do my solo each of them expressing what skid row is like and what a horrible place to live in. While sang my solo I needed to show confidence and seem effortless and show how I knew everything about life in skid row. A lot of the dance was me moving around the stage as a 3 being a unit and making sure we are in sink. This needs to be worked on in everything we do so its obviously to the audience that we are close. Through out I need to make my character forward going a full of energy as this is the kind of person she is.

Little shop- day 1

Today we started by working on the song skid row. In this lesson we worked on singing the song and setting the harmonys . At the beginning of the song I have a solo which needs working on so I can't get the timing and rhythm right and have as much confidence with it as possibe  this is important as this is right as it's the opening to the song. We then worked on who was singing each of the individual line  in between the down towns so that the lines suited the character and each of them gave a different effect to the song. Through the song we needed to work on the harmonies and we did this by splitting into 3 groups. Then for each of the chorus singing parts we put in all the different harmonies and perfected them. Once we had had sung through adding harmonies we sang it with the cast recording to get used to our timings and then we sang it with backing track. We need to work on making sure everyone knows when they come in and sing with confidence other wise there isn't enough power behind it and the song doesn't sound as effective.
