Little shop- Day 14

At the beginning of this lesson we started by updating our blogs and getting up to date. This gave me time to add everything i needed to to my blog.
After this we had a quick warm up which got us ready to run all the dances. We started by running through all the musical numbers in act one. When we did little shop I worked on what the 3 girls would be doing while our choreographer worked with the rest of the cast as we are doing different things. We don't do as much in this dance because of we are singing the song. We then moved on to skid row and ya never know. We had to run through Ya never know slowley first as alot of people had forgot where everything had gone. When we did this it came clear to everyone what we had to and when we ran it again it looked really tidy.

Little Shop- Day 13

Today in the lesson we began by watching a documentary from channel 4 about closing of shows in the west end. It helped us to see how even big performances struggle with keeping there shows going for a long time and making sure they make as much money as possible. It was interesting to watch about how much work it is to put on a show and how hard you need to work to stay in business. Even winning the top award at the Olivier's can stop you from closing.
We then carried out another warm up session again building on our fitness and making sure we have energy for the lesson ahead.
We then ran through each of the musical numbers with backtrack not the cast recording to get used to singing without support. We started with da doo which we firstly needed to sing through as we had not yet. This included setting harmonies and including this into the song. We then ran meek shall inherit which is coming on nicely just the positions need to be worked on slightly so that the stage looks tidier and everyone can be seen.

Little shop- Day 12

Today in the lesson we began by working on our fitness to keep out with the dance and vocal warm ups to make sure out voices are strong for the performance. This took about 20 minutes of the lesson.
We then worked on the Dance 'ya never know'. This dance was very fast and you needed to pick up quickly to able to keep up. I was able to do this easily as i'm used to picking up dance routines. However I then got put into a bit where I had to leap frog over Liam which I really struggled with because he is taller then me and I have very little upper body strength. I tried to do it a few times and each time I could't get the height or the distance to get over him and kept landing on his shoulders. In the end our choreographer changed it so I didn't have to leap frog. This reduced the pressure off me and made me feel a lot more comfortable with the dance. This dance is one of the most technical to lots of different sections with different tempos so we needed to make sure that we have it spot on. When learning a new dance I know that I know it but lose confidence in my self so I need to work on this so my performance is as smooth as possible.

Little Shop- Day 11

In the lesson Today we began by writing down all the different characteristics of our character. This
was to help us place ourselves within the chorus as our character.
crystals included:

  • sassy
  • confident
  • streetwise
  • knowledgeable
  • control
  • bossy
  • in sink
  • young
  • high self esteem
  • always want money
Taking into consideration these traits for my character its has helped me to build my character and make it more believable who I am. It has helped me to react better in scene, to have more in depth emotion and to create someone who is real.
We then moved on to perform skid row with our character in mind which meant my solo had to be confident and full of control. I could not show my nerves. However the first time i did it again I was very nervous and my teacher made me restart and do it again. I put much more effort in and pushed myself to try my best and not hold back. This made my solo sound better as I wasn't holding back.
The purpose of performing this was to show a range of characters and not all being the same otherwise this become boring for the audience. We did this a few times to keep building on the energy and making our characters deeper.
We then carried on until we got you 'ya never know' which we sang through and worked out our harmonies. Learning these harmonies and the words to the songs are important to make the musical number as a whole stand out.

Little shop- Day 10

Today in the lesson we began by working on  'the meek shall inherit'. We began by listening to it as a class. We then ran it through setting it with the dialogue and singing it through.  We then went over things adding sections to it. For example how Tom Freya and I moved about stage with Kyle and where all the contractors stood at each point. We then worked on the chorus which we had blocked in a cluster doing movements in time. We then ran this and added additions such as the contractors freezing after they have been spoken to. We then filmed it which helped us to watch back and go over it. After this we went up to the end number with running the dialogue and going over the finale again.

Little shop-Day 9

Today we worked on the rest of the finale and added bows into it. We also then added some movement to the Finale so that it looked more interesting and was better for the audience to watch. We just wanted to add as much character as possible so that it was a fun number and more exciting. We then ran this a few times to get used to how it went so we could all remember what we were doing and our positioning.

After we completed this we began by working on the dentist during this Tom Freya and I were to the side as if we are looking in on the action while the rest of the cast danced around Toby who was in the dentist chair. This worked well as our characters are all knowing and this is shown by us not being included in the action. We wanted this number to fun and a laugh as the dentist is one of them characters who had cruel meaning behind him but it is shown in a light hearted way.

Little Shop- day 8

Today we started on act 2 and ran through from beginning to end missing out the musical numbers that we haven't done. This helped me to learn more about the plot and more about my characters. We then began to set the finalie We began by singing through with the cast recording and then we began doing it with the baking track to get used to it. At the beginning it starts with Tom Freya and I areon stage and the others walk on behind us. We didn't complete this today so we didn't have a feel for the whole piece. We could have improved the singing by working on harmonies and making sure that we are coming in at the right time.

Little Shop- Day 7

Today we began by running through skid row with the backing track trying to put in as much effort as possible. At the beginning I was lacking confidence for my solo as its my first time of having a solo so we stopped it and my teacher and the cast gave me some encouragement to help me. We then ran it again and I felt like I could go for it more.We then ran through the whole of it and was making the number as enthusiastic as possible. This included us running it a few times to get everyone levels up more and more.We then moved on to running the rest of act one missing out all the musical numbers which are in this part of the act. This included setting the scene where the dentist who is Dan.s gases himself to death. Once we get used to how the scenes together we can develop them more and add our own twist on them.

Little shop- day 6

We started by running act one with all the musical numbers up until closed for renovation. We firstly started by dividing the first few lines of the song between Kyle who is Seymour, Meg is Seymour and Harry who is Mushnik as they are the only people on stage. They are rushing around and re adjusting the shop. The next Audrey 2 is then bought on which is a size up from where it had grown. At the chorus  all the rest of the cast enter rushing around and tidying up the shop. I found this very messy and this didn't work very well because everyone was bumping into each other and pushing each other around. I think for this number there needs to be a set order for everyone otherwise it will be confusing for the audience. After this we then ran through each of the musical numbers adding improvement to them making sure that everyone was in time and then done them with backing tracks. This was difficult as we were still unsure of some of the words to the song which made it hard to carry out singing and dancing at the same time.
