Day 19+20- little shop

Day 19
Today we decided to run musical number to make sure that we knew them completely we started by running 'its the gas' to see if we all remembered it from the lesson before which mostly we did. Then we ran the musical numbers more then once to add lots more energy to the dances and making sure every character is different. This helped to enhance the piece and ensure that it reached its full limit.
Day 20
Today we ran Act 2 including all the musical numbers which went rather well however we still need to get the timings right for the dances especially 'Meek shall inherit' as the boys with the solos come in  at the wrong time and it will become of if we out of time with the music. Through out I tried to keep my script down as much as possible which helped me to learn my lines. Each of the songs harmonies are getting better and stronger which makes the over all performance better. I fell like i'm feeling more confident with my character now and I can give a lot more too it.

Outside of lesson I have been helping on the Audrey 2 by paper macheing it so that it had a solid outer shell so it is able to hold up and create a shape that is like a Venus fly trap

Day 18- Little shop

After the warm up we started running act 2 which was beneficial in letting us see where we are weak and where we need to work on. Using the backing tracks helped us to get the timing right and get used to putting speech in the middle. In Act 2 we had much more energy then act 1 which meant that it was more interesting to watch. However it was hard to get a feel for spacing as we were not on the stage. To improve on act 2 we need to look at it on stage and make sure that the timing is right in songs like 'meek shall inherit'.
Once we ran act 2 we moved on to running all musical numbers then moving on to seeing 'Now/ Its the gas' which was hard as Dan our choreographer had to make it up on the spot however everyone helped to give him ideas. Dan had the idea of us being as if we were a jack in the box as the music is dark and sinister. We also decided that we are all in the waiting room so we decided we should all be holding magazines through out the song and we should be staggered up to the dentist chair on either side. We wanted to make the dance as fun but sinister as possible. Which I think came across in the bouncing.

Day 17- Little shop

Today we were able to get back into the hall and this allowed us to start to view what the performance looked like on the stage. We started by running act 1 which went fairly well however the whole piece needs more energy and confidence too it to make it more interesting to watch. Doing it on the stage helped us to understand spacing and get to know whos around us at all times. It was also very difficult because it was one of the first times using the backing tracks which were a lot quicker then the cast recording we had previously been using. This made the musical numbers slightly messy and they can be improved with more practice using the tracks. Overall everyone new what they were doing and knew the basics of what is going on but now we need to work on the performance being solid and putting in more effort to make it look good. We also need to work on putting our scrips down. Personally I need to work on my confidence when i'm singing so it is powerful enough to make an impact to the audience I also need to make sure that i'm putting in lots of energy and enthusiasm as that is what my character is like.

Day 16- little shop

Today at the beginning of the lesson we started with a warm up to get ready to go for rehearsals.
 we ran through all the musical numbers with singing, dancing and characterisation. We started with the opening number but we did this more then once as the first time wasn't very effective and didn't have lots of energy to it. When we did it the second time everyone had a better grasp to the dance and added more character to it. Then we moved on to the rest of the musical numbers including 'Skid row', 'ya never know', 'meek shall inherit' and 'don't feed the plants'.
While others went off too work on other scenes us 3 girls worked on our singing and our scenes together so we could be more in sink and together. We then continued with singing through musical numbers to make sure they were perfect.

Little Shop- Day 15

Today in the lesson we began by singing through all the songs without movement this was to help us with harmonies and to make us all project. To help us to know what were doing so that when we danced its sounded just as good. This really helped me as it allowed me to work out what harmonies sounded best for me and how I could improve so that each musical number sounded as good a it could be.
We then began running Act 2 which went really well however we needed to start putting scripts down and performing all the musical number without hesitation so the whole Act runs smoother. We also need to make sure each of the bows are in time in the finale to make sure that everyone has time too. For me I know I need to make sure that I know in which order everything is going so I dont move at the wrong time.
