Devising- Evaluation

Devising process
Group work
I found through out the devising process that how we worked as a group could have been better in my way but there was things that our group that did go well. Our group was very good when it came to making decisions as we all have similar ideas and what we like this mean that we managed to do this quickly so when it came to putting ideas together it would be easier but because of other problems we slowed down so this was a benefit as it means that we were just able to get everything done. We all worked together well as we were all able to bring ideas and share them openly this was important so that we all had a contribution to our devising piece and we were all able to include what we thought was best to the piece. Use being open with ideas meant that we are able to trial ideas and see which best suits the piece we decided we were looking for at the begging. We were also good at solving problems as we managed to make the theme of our piece fit to our style which we wanted to be disjointed and make the audience think what it is about after they have walked away and make an impression on the audience. This is why us solving this problem with having lots of different scenes with the same theme was a good idea as the audience had to work out what linked them together.
However within our group we found it hard to keep on track with timing as we had members of the group who were unreliable and weren't there for lots of lessons due to other commitments. which at point made it hard as they may have needed to bring in something for the scene or we may have wanted their opinion on things. This therefore put delays on some of the scenes we were doing and we would have to changed our schedule. I also found that people in our group misunderstood how other people worked so we needed to understand each other to fit more as we needed to gain respect for others. The best way to improve this would have been more open with each other and be less in need for conflict and to understand each other. We also need to have more focus as this would keep everyone on track with what they are doing and will cause the process be quicker. The communication also could have been better and this would have stopped things such as when I was dropped and it could also mean that we spread out responsibilities equally rather then us all just guessing what we can bring to the group

blocking
When we were blocking out piece we made sure that we had good and reliable research which supported each of our scenes this was to make sure that everything we made was as near to the truth as possible and helping in making people understand what humanity in crisis is and womens rights roles in this. Another good thing when we were blocking was that each of us were able to give relevant and suitable ideas relating to our research so having lots of ideas made it easier to develop a scene as all these ideas can be mixed to make the best idea we could have. Another thing that made our blocking easier was that we made scripts so we could have quality dialogue in scenes such as soldiers and refugees this is so that we can make it more captivating to an older audience and allows us to add in lots of facts so that it is as realistic as possible.
Although we could have improved with our blocking in the sense of our time keeping as our blocking needed to be done quicker so we had more time to polish at the end this could have been done by making  time table of where we want to be after each week and then reviewing at the end of the week making sure that we are on track. This can then make sure we get blocked a few weeks before the performance and we can use all our media more before hand. When we were blocking we also need to make sure that if we don't like what we are putting together then the person who doesn't like it needs to give a suggestion to replace it. This is because this slows down time as we then all have to make suggestions that will then be better and they are usually similar and hard for the person to like.

polishing
When it came to polishing we didn't have a lot of time to do it in as we took a long time to block what we were doing. However one issue we did come across was with the lighting this was because the lights we had originally planed to use were not working so we had to change the colours around that we were using. This meant that it took a little longer then needed to set up the lighting as we had to get as close to what we originally wanted as possible. We also found that doing our sound was last minute as the person assigned with this job didn't do it which meant we had to download and transfer it on the day of the performance. One things that could have been better was having more runs with our tech will polishing as we found that we only used it in the performance.
Although I found that when we put in the transitions during polishing the scenes run smoothly and it looked effective with our change of costume and changes of scenes.

performance
I found that our overall performance was a success as each of our scenes went according to plane in the acting sense and it looked very effective with the lights and music we used. However we did have trouble with the sound on the commentary the projections and this was due to the speaker that this was attached too turned off so when it was played it didn't come out which meant that some of the parts to our piece become a bit disjointed as it cause other music to be delayed and made some of it to become a bit boring. This could have been improved by having more runs with our forms of media so we could have picked up the problem with the speaker. I thought that one thing that went well were the transitions between the scenes were smooth and they had enough time in order for us to change our costumes and it not looked rushed. I also think the position of the projection needed to change because i began to notice that when there was projection showing that very little people were looking at it so this part could have been missed and this is a crucial part to making sense to our refugee scene as it set the scene. So i believe that we should have had it above the opposite head of the audience so that it was directly in front of them so it was scene
overall I think our performance was a success and the audience who came to see it enjoyed it.

Devising- Thursday 10th December

In today's lesson we started by adding Tom into the transitions and doing what we could as we didn't have Theo. With this we managed to put everything into it place and make it look right. Once we had done this we finalised everything we needed and made sure that we had everything we needed to go and that each costume was different as some people had chosen the same thing for 2 characters. We however didn't have the hall for this lesson so where unable to set up lighting or do any of our lifts as the ceiling was low in room we were in. We felt like we were ready but all we needed now was to add the media on Monday.

writing in role after death

I never know how much it would hurt to run in front of a horse. Well I soon found out it bloody well did. I never meant to kill myself like everyone seems to think I did all I was doing was getting my point across. I wasn't trying to pull down Anmer I just tried to attach a scarf to his bridle. The poor rider, Jones, the fear in his face as I lept out was a picture that will haunt me. Never did I know that it would lead to him killing himself later on. I will never regret what I done it got the attention it deserved people began to understand it got our name heard. Although I wish I was around to see what rights we finally got. The pride that I have from being in such a force that managed to stay so strong. I was jailed 9 times and force fed 49 but I'm a fighter they weren't going to break me. I knew we could do it. I was loyal to the cause because I knew it had reason and had a chance to get the women what they needed.

Devising- Wednesday 9th December

Today we got together to look at the suffragettes scene and decided we would start it with a freeze frame of me and Freya linking arms sitting down as if we are protesting with Tom Pulling us apart then Dom and Dan throwing stuff at us this set the scene of what this is about. It then went on to the voting scene where Kai who is speaking his monologue is moves Tom towards the middle where he starts being the MP and Dan and Dom come out the freeze frame to create this scene where they disagree with the change that Tom proposes we then moved onto the part where the women are over powered and we did this by doing a lift where we are picked up spun placed down like we are being pushed out the way and ignored. Then when we become more powerful we push the men to there seats. Freya and I stayed in the middle until we are taken back to our chairs and force fed. This is where we are ready to go into the lifts. When the commentary from the race end I run into the middle and lifted. We decided that we would no longer try to be horses as it didn't look effective so we will have everyone running in.

Devising- Tuesday 8th December

Before today's we found out we would be missing Theo from our group until our performance day and we know this would have some major set backs for our group as we had a lot to do for the performance to be ready. So in the lesson as we were missing Tom as well we decided we would start by sorting out the rest of costume props and lighting which i had already started in my free time. I designed a table for our costume so it was easy to work out what everyone was wearing for each scene and which prop they would need if any. With our costume we wanted it to be easy to put on over our blacks and be different for each scene to show that you are a different character. Such as for the scenes where I play 2 different lady from the same ethnicity I wear 2 different head scarfs as this represents them as a individual character. This also help the audience to understand that we are not the same person through out. We then started looking at lighting by grabbing one of the lights and looking at the combination of colours. I had decided before that for suffragettes I wanted yellow, human trafficking red and  refugees green. So we officially decided that we wanted:
opening: blue, green and red mix
soldiers: blue and amber mix
arranged marriage: red and blue mix
human trafficking; red
suffragettes: green, amber and red mix
refugees: green
scene changes- all colours (neural mix)
We then got the chance to put our performance into the space that we were performing into which allowed as to stretch everything so that it looked right in the space we had. This is because it is a lot larger then what we have got used to. We decided that we had to move something in closer and somethings further apart.

Devising- Monday 7th December

In today's lessons we decided to show both groups works and spoke about how we could work on them. One of the things we worked on was the transitions between scenes so they are smooth and make the piece look slick. So we decided that when we do our transition for each costume we will get changed when the music begins. Then once we are all done we all pause in a neutral position until the music stops and we go straight into the next scene.
When we got to the suffragettes scene we also decided that this didn't have enough power to it as we had put it after a powerful scene so the tension was lost and the audience would have become bored so we decided to have extra time to put this together and allowed us to make it look better.
To make our piece good we need to make sure that all the transitions are polished and we are able to know what we are doing.

It feels like an endless pit of despair which I will never get out off. With everyturn my life gets lower and lower and it is impossible to get out.

Devising- Thursday 3rd December

In today's lesson we started by using the script i had created:

We went through this then added into it the little scenes and added Tom into the bits we had done the day before such as the guards at the beginning and how he needed to create his character.
Once we did this we moved onto the suffragettes scene where we had Tom write a monologue and we were going to add small scenes into it. We started by reading through the script and working out where different scenes could do we decided that we could add a scene within the bit about voting and when the women go from being less powerful to very powerful. We also wanted to show the women begin chained and force fed with tubes and finally the lifts to show the force of the horse.
After this we decided the order of the scenes in the order below we decided this was the best way to go as we managed to split the similar pieces equally such as movement pieces, ethnical pieces and our monologue scenes. This made it so there was a good flow in tension and context so it keeps our audience captivated.

Tuesday, 1 December 2015

Devising- Tuesday 1st December

In today's lesson we started by putting together a time table as we only had a couple of lessons to go and we have a lot to do it included:
1/12/15- refugees
3/12/15- Finish refugees- start suffragettes
7/12/15- Run everything
8/12/15- transitions
10/12/15- Run and polish

once we done this we started making talking about how we wanted our scene to look we wanted to have a sound scape at some point to set the atmosphere we also wanted our audience to feel like they are in the camp by the guards standing at either end and circling the audience and shining their torches on the audience.
We then created an order in which the scene.
Starting with the signs which included phrases
Freya
Ellie
I am a Doctor
I am a Teacher
The jungle is not for us
The jungle is for animals
They are non-people
The forgotten women of Calais
Where are our human rights
Where are our human rights

then the guards to start shouting and demanding us back to our camp
Dan then saves the girl who he doesn't know
the girls then tell Dan about the back ground about why they are their and what happens in the camp including stories such as men trying to get into the ladies tents an how they have to sleep 6 to a tent and how the guards are corrupt stopping them from taking a shower.
we started to put this together but Dan found it hard to make up what he was saying on the spot so i decided to make a script for the next lesson to allow us to make sure that the dialogue for this scene is of good quality.

Devising- Monday 30th November

In today's lesson we started of by discussing how we were going to put the refugee scene together so we thought about looking at refugees today but before looking at them through time through a series of pictures going thought the holocaust all the way to our scene which we wanted to base on the refugee camp which is on the edge of Calais at the moment. So we decided to look at ideas and how to put them into a scene while others started looking at stuff to include in the presentation at the beginning i started looking at women living in these camps. Once I got this information I printed it off and started to pick out things that I thought was relevant and how we could use this in our piece. This was such as the camps being refereed to as the jungle so I saw our lighting at being a green colour. It also refereed to women showing signs which fought for their rights so I thought this would be a great way to start our scene to introduce our characters. There was also lots of references to fear and how it not being safe for them anywhere. So I thought the best way to get across to the audience what is going in here is in a conversation between people in the camp but we needed to do this in an interesting way.

Devising- Thursday 26th November

In today's lesson we started working on regaining trust in the group by going over the suffragettes lifts from last lesson after I was dropped. I was really nervous when we did this as i didn't want to fall again so we did it a lot slower this allowed me to get used to being lifted again and start to regain out trust. We also spoke about how we need to prevent this happening again such as making sure we communicate more which involves making sure that we have one person counting for everyone. This is good that we managed to talk it through as this otherwise could cause a big impact as it would have been harder for me to become confident with being lifted again. Next time i also think we need to have a mat for safety so if dropping occurs again then we are able to prevent it from hurting to much.
In the next lesson we plan on trying to complete the suffragettes scene and putting the drop behind us as a group.
This is all we got done for the lesson as we had trouble getting some of the group to understand what had been done wrong and how to prevent it without them think it was there fault so we needed to go over it several times.

Devising- Tuesday 24th November

In todays lesson we started by watch the Video of Emily Davidson when she got hit by the horse to get to grips with what happened on the day she died.

Once we had done this we decided that to recreate this we needed to do a series of lifts so we began improvising and decided we were going to do a crusurfix kind of lift where I was risen up and down. When I was lowered to the ground I tried to run however they grabbed me and pulled me back swinging me back and forth. When I was put down they then shot me into the air straight as if im rising into heaven then im slowly lower to the floor and left to rest. I like how each of the lifts we used symbolised something and had a meaning.
Once we had done this we needed to create the horse so decided to do this in the style of war house so we watched a video of how it was created.
Looking at this we tried to recreate 2 horses as Emily Davidson was hit by more then one horse and it was hard to create on horse as there was so many legs. We made sure the legs where looking like a horse and they had a clear rhythm. We then added this in before the lifts and this happens by them charging with the commentary over the top then the horses engulf me and lift.
In this lesson at the end I was dropped due to one of the lifts going wrong causing me to fall onto my head. This was due to people miss counting and causing others to let go at different times. This needed to be avoided at all cost so we now need to work on building trust again in our next lesson.

Monday, 23 November 2015

Devising- Monday 23rd November

In todays lesson we started by showing Tom what we have done on the opening and what he has to do to join in to the movement piece . Once we had done this we showed it to our teacher and then we began to perfect it by getting detailed feedback on very precise things such as pointing our toes and leaning into movements more. We then had to go away and continue to make it better by including everything and making sure that everyone was doing the movements correctly. We then showed it to the other group and they liked what we did with it but thought the boys should have more facial expressions with what they are doing.
We decided that in the next lesson that we would start working on the suffragettes scene and looking at ways that we could recreate the point when Emily Davidson as we want to include it making it as effective as we could.

Devising- Thursday 19th November

In today's lesson we worked on finishing the opening scene. In this scene we wanted to make sure that it is not similar to our human trafficking scene. Me and Freya began improvising and adding and removing things we liked and didn't liked and work shopped out ideas to make it look how it should.

To like that we made this a movement piece as it is a calm opening to our shocking piece. It is also was to make the audience think about what our piece is about before it begins to develop. This leaves a greater impact as you are able to show lots of different points without have a specific topic within womens rights. We also had decided at the beginning that we wanted to make our audience to walk away wondering if they actually understand the piece so this is a perfect way of not giving the theme away at the beginning.

Tuesday, 17 November 2015

Devising- Tuesday 17th November

In today's lesson we managed to get a lots done by splitting into 2 groups within our group to get on with different things, We started the lesson by discussing how we were going to open the performance to allow people to understand what was going on and we spoke about what we should wear to help identify each character so we suggested that each main character should have a watch as there is a lot of change in time but i said this may not be obvious to the audience that this is being used to symbolis something. I then suggested that maybe insted of this we should protect a clock on the floor to show the time that has past then it was suggested that someone turns there watch to the time change. We also spoke about the suffragette movement and how we could look at it so we looked at the video and decided that it should be on a projection on the floor.
Tom then began working on the monologue for the suffragettes as we wanted this to be a quality diolouge piece. He did this by using research he had found before. We then decided to look at doing an opening movement piece. We looked at many different song and one suggested was 'take me to church' and 'the sound of silence' however we settled it 'I need' by Maverick Sabre as it fitted better with what we were doing. For this we wanted to make sure that the women were made to be worthless and alone so we added this to our scene. For the next lesson we wanted to make sure that we could finish our movement piece.
What I liked most about what we did today was how each other our movements were fluid and had meaning behind them making them direct to the theme.

Devising- Monday 16th November

In today's lesson we started by looking at Augusto Boal who is a practitioner we learnt about his different techniques. He helped to develope the theatre of the oppressed. Boal had 3 main techniques we learnt about the first was invisible theater which is where a scene takes place in front of an audience that is unaware that it is acting and believe it is real therefore any audience member who joins in become part of the scene. I like this idea as it would be very good to see the audiences reacting however in devising this will be extremely hard as our audience has been invited to watch. however if we did use this it could seem to the audience that were coming out of the character. Image theatre is showing short scenes of images which the audience to understand and it is a way of condensing it but expressing a specific image quickly. This would be a good idea in a scene to produce lots of small images so that to condense our point in one scene for example we could do this in our suffragettes scene as there were many issues back then that we could show in short images to get the point across. Forum theatre is another that he created and this is a type of theatrical game where a problem is shown in an unresolved form the audience can then suggest a solution. this is then continued until a solution is found.
We then decided that we were going to do some forum theatre to find the weaknesses in each of our scenes that we had recently produced from either group. So we performed our arranged marriage piece. Our first point we were given was that Dan needs to be more serious as he is acting like it is a joke however he needs to make it seem more like a business transaction. We then got the comment that Dom needed better posture when sitting in the chair and when we walk of Dom needs to make his glare at me bigger so the audience notices and I take a bigger step back.  When Kai had his scene with Freya he needed to turn his chair so his body language is open to her as they are friends and making the scene change obvious by them both crossing their legs at the same time. We also got the comment of when Dom is being horrible to Freya he needs to be more patronising and horrible to her making what he says very disjointed and spelling it out to her. Tom in the final scene needs to be more aggressive as he is angry that Freya has disrespected her son. Dans character also has to be very controlling as he is pushing Freya into this.
We then got into pairs with someone from the other group I got with Dan. We then told each other positvie and negatives about our performance. Dan told me that my performance really showed a controlled women who had little power. This is because my posture is low and my arms are crossed.
I think that next time we do this scene we need to work on these things to enable the scene to have the best effect it can on the audience.

Tuesday, 10 November 2015

Devising- Tuesday 10th November

Today in the lesson we started by showing Theo our forced marriage piece. Then we had pictures taken for the prospectus and we did this by doing lifts from our human trafficking piece which gave us change to practice them and perfect them. We then went of to discuss costume and decidied that we were going to wear all blacks as we had multiple scenes which would have really different topics so have a neutral colour like black and adding items to represent the character would be better. It also gives the chance for the audience to focus on whats going on in the acting rather then what we are wearing. We then spoke about lighting and i suggested it being very suttel with just change in colour for different scenes. This was also to show a difference between the scenes and to not distact away from what we are doing.
We can work on this be deciding what colours and costumes we can uses so we are able to start putting our set together.

Monday, 9 November 2015

Devising- Monday 9th November

In today's lesson we began looking at our forced marriage scene again. We started by looking through our ideas and decided that we were no longer going to have it holiday based as it seemed to complicated and harder to understand for the audience so we looked at doing it at home. We then decided to not have the funeral of Freya's mother as it is irrelevant to the story and we want it to be direct and to the point. We therefore started with both parent making the final arrangements will we walk towards the drench up the traverse while they sit next to each other facing forwards but very spread apart so show they don't want this. While the men walk up I follow behind saying very little as if i'm being controlled. The scene then continues trying to get each other to talk to each other however Freya is very defiant. When we leave Dan set Freya into place and then it goes into Freya confiding i Kai her friend where he doesn't know what to do to support her. The next scene then included Dom taking control over Freya by being assertive. This was to show how words could hurt just as much as physical abuse. The next part included a scene without Dom and Tom putting of the wedding for a year to enable Freya to be controlled. At the end Freya talk to Dom on the phone saying she cooked his dinner and his sons in bed showing the audience he got exactly what they wanted.

Thursday, 5 November 2015

Devising- Thursday 5th November

In today's lesson we carried on looking at arranged marriage and how we wanted to put it into a scene. We decided we wanted it to be like a similar idea that we had come up before when we were originally doing the soldier idea so we took the idea of cross cutting and changing scenes. So this is when I suggested that we started writing a 2 sided lift to look at the male scenes and female scenes. From the females point of view we women we wanted her to be harrowed, confide in a friend, defend what she wants, being tricked into going on holiday and then the day of the wedding. We wanted it to be abroad as a lot of stories spoke about being tricked into going on a holiday. From the males side we wanted him to show how he wanted it to happen and he was happy for it but for the right reasons and we also wanted to show the parents talking to him. Showing it from the side of the man and how forceful he would be and how much he wants it but he doesn't. We then decided on the who would play each character. Freya would be the girl with Dan.s being her dad, Dom being the boy with Tom and  I being his parents and Kai being the friend to confide in. We thought Freya should be the one who doesn't have a mum because of our limit of girls because she would feel more pressured if her mum memory would be used as a means to do something. We then continued on to put the scenes into order. Deciding to start with Freyas mums funeral, then the fathers discussing what was going on, then we wanted the the boy being told, then confiding in a friend followed by the going away. This was the rough basis on which we wanted it to go but we need to finish it next lesson.

Devising- Tuesday 3rd November

Today in the lesson we started by discussing what we did from the last lesson on our human trafficking piece and Theo had found a trailer of a film that he suggests we watch to be able to understand the feeling and the emotion behind this. It would also help with the hard facts of what human trafficking is.
After we did this we started looking at arranged marriage from different points of view and we found an arranged marriage hand book
This helped to understand how bad arranged marriage could be. We then decided as a group that it would no longer be an arranged marriage piece but it would be force as there is a clear difference between having a choice and being made to do something. Our piece being about womens rights we decided that forced would be more appropriate and we should show the pressure put on the women and how hard it is for them. We also discussed how we could make it more emotive and get the audience to understand what arranged marriage is about as a lot of people do not understand the reasons behind it and the suffering it causes after. The hand book helped me to understand how impossible it is to escape when you have been forced into something that you don't want to be in.
We also spoke about a story of a women who was practicing to become a doctor at university when here parents forced her into marriage and she was sent to Afghanistan where she could not practice what she had learnt and was hardly even allowed to the leave the house. She went from being independent to completely isolated and unable to have a life. This made it clear to me this was a good topic to chose to show what we want to and show how women are still not equal to men.

Monday, 2 November 2015

Devising- Monday 2nd November

Today in the lesson we started by going over our movement piece from before half term as we all had forgotten some of it. We then showed it to our teacher and began to get feedback on what we were doing. He first said that on the bit where the boys are using contact improvisation to touch me that it doesn't look violent or abusive enough so they need to physically touch me. We also needed to change the timing for some of our scenes to make the lift where Theo is strangling me to be slower so seem as if I am rising to heaven. We also decided that everything needed to more aggressive to make you feel sorry for the girls.
In the next part of the lesson we worked on these parts until this looked better. Today I feel I really helped to develop my in terms of my facial expressions as they really help to make the audience understand what i'm going through.
For the next lesson we said we were going to look at suffragettes so we needed to do some research.

Devising- Tuesday 20th October

Today on the lesson we continued to work on our movement piece adding more contact improvisation and adding in quotes in the more quite bit to make it more detailed while being simple at the same time. This whole piece can be improved by firstly making sure that me and freya know our quotes we are saying and that we are in time when doing them. We also need to make sure that we are in time the whole thing so when certain things happen they are on the right beat.

I struggle to move some days. Sometimes I think my legs may not work anymore as I wont have moved off the bed in 3 or 4 days. Its scary. No one cares about me its as if i'm lost and no one will ever find me in a maze of of pain with so many creatures lurking in the darkness grabbing me when they can. I feel dirty and impure they are all animals and I have no control. They drug me so I cant move. I feel life less so I cant fight back or say no so I just have to go with the torture. I shut my eyes hoping that it would end and I would be home again but I never am. I don't even know where I am i'm in the same room of a house somewhere in France but Its fuzzy and I can't remember where it is. I just want to go home.

Devising - Monday 19th October

Today in the lesson we looked at a movement piece for human trafficking as we thought it would be the easiest to do as we were missing Kai. We started by discussing what song we wanted to choose and I thought we should use Radio active as it has a good rhythm with lots of drops in the music which would make it more effect. We then wanted to make the beginning obvious to the audience what the scene was about so we wanted to have me standing there while we decided Theo to be the leader of the trafficking to be saying things to encourage me to come to the UK as it is full of opportunities and each time another thing is said some one grabs hold of me. I then decided it would be good if we had a lift and then on the beat drop I would be dropped and caught. Freya suggested that we do a Crusafix lift so we decided to go get help from our teacher so we made sure it was the right way to do it without being dropped. We then carried on with tugging and contact improvisation.
We need to finish what were doing on this piece and I think it can be improved by everyone being rougher and there being more facial expression.

Devising- Thursday 15th October

Today in the lesson we started the lesson by sharing our ideas that we had looked at over the last couple of days and I looked in depth at different picture I could find to do with refugees that showed what a horrible situation it was.
These picture helped me to see how hard it is for people who try to find refugee. Once we had all shared our research we then discussed what we would like to do with the scenes we had done, how we could develop new ones. I then came up with the idea from the video I looked at from the last lesson and looking at the trafficking of humans and how we could develop this into a movement piece. which we could use ideas from the previous video i looked at about schizophrenia and use the robotic movements.
We then decided we wanted to keep the previous scenes we had done and link them into a new idea. We then said we could work on a main theme of womens rights and look at them from many different points of view.
This helped to link to our original idea on elements, themes and issues as we wanted it to be hard to figure out and doing lots of different story lines makes it like the jigsaw we wanted.
our different story lines include: refugees, Human trafficking, soldiers, suffragettes/voting and arranged marriage.
We then split into groups and began looking at the different ideas I was looking at human trafficking. I found a good website which gave many facts into Human trafficking which I thought could be used in media purposes such as power points being projected to help make the scene deeper.

Devising- Tuesday 13th October

Today in the lesson we decided to look at a different idea that Dan had come up with to do with refugees. We decided to talk about this idea and how we could use it in our piece. We started by looking at the young boy who washed up on a shore and how there parents were still denied refugee in Canada.
This got us thinking about the emotion we could bring into our piece. We then split of and started looking at different stories that we could include in our piece. I started looking at stories that involve refugee children as these can be the most emotive of them all. I found a story about a Nigerian girl.
This story really inspired me as it looked at it from a child who got taken advantage of this really caught my attention as it was emotive. It also looked at this from our original women rights idea.

Devising- Thursday 8th October

Today in the lesson we started to discuss working on the difference between women and wife and this could be shown in a creative way. We decided we were going to do cross cutting but I came up with the idea that we each did a scene one after the other like cross cutting but then moved around the traverse so each member of the audience get to see the scene at a different angle. So we stared looking at the little scenes that we could involve to show differences. We thought the first scene should be each of use going to put a coat on but I put it on my husband and Freya put it on hereself. We then went on to us getting ready to go out where I was sorting out the kids where as Freya was getting herself ready. Then we walk next to each other and I say forgot his wallet and at the same time Freya says forgot my wallet and we swap sides. We then begin walking into someone where im appologetic, Freya is slightly more angry. At the end we then go into a cross cutting scene between us talking to a friend about our life. In this part we needed to make sure we make it more like we are having a conversation with someone then speaking a monologue. I think this idea worked really well but it needs to be smooth and everyone needs to be in the right place at the right time. It also could include more little scenes involved in the cross cut.

Devising- Character profile and writing in role- Soldiers

Name
Major Judith Webb
Age
35
Nationality
English
Current residence
Somerset
Occupation
First female army officer and squadron commander
Talents/ skills
Debating skills, knowledgeable,
Relationships in scene
With Michael Fallon is disjointed and she doesn’t agree with his opinions
Short term goals
She want people to understand her point of view because it is a valid point but others don’t understand her as she is trying to bring about equality.
Long term goals and why
Never allow women to be able to serve as part of the front line because she believe that they are not as physically or mentally strong as men so she
Strengths
Good in combat, defends herself, strong willed
Weaknesses
Unable to look at other perspective and fears of causing children to be left motherless if the situation for women on the front line becomes unfavorable
Introvert/ extrovert
Extrovert

Michael Fallon is a let down in the army community expecting women to be put in roles where they are expected to carry out tasks that some men are unable to carry out. These women should be able to go into roles that they choose but the front line is not one of them. It is a place for men and that is it. Women can be anything they want apart from this and I am proof of that. However as soon as we let them have this right they want more. I would much rather be in my position then on the front line as I know that at the end of the day I will see my family. I know that I will be safe but I'm still doing my bit for my country and fighting for what is right. I understand equality is an issue but it is a fact the most not all men are physically and mentally stronger then women so I believe that women would not be able to cope with the stress that this role brings along with it. Women are vulnerable to these anarchy such as the Taliban because they are women. In countries we fight in there women rights are different and they are seen as objects so they will get treated like them. They would have no chance of defending themselves if they were to be kidnapped. They just need to understand.
